About Widener University

Widener University is a private, coeducational university located in Chester, which is a city in Delaware County, in the US state of Pennsylvania, with a population of nearly 37 000 inhabitants, at the time of the 2000 census.

The university was established in 1821, and first started as a preparatory school for boys, becoming a college in 1862, achieving university status in 1979, when it adopted its current name.

Widener offers `a combination of quality academic programs, experiential learning, and civic engagement that challenges students both inside and outside of the classroom and prepares them for success in school and in life.`

Athletics

Widener's athletic teams are known as the Pride and they compete in NCAA Division III, within the Commonwealth and Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC). Their distinctive colors are Widener blue and gold.
